Arrive at Addo Afrique and be welcomed by the sight of Giraffe and Bushbuck strolling around your lodge.
Take a walking safari with our Giraffe or relax by the pool taking in the views over the Addo Elephant National Park as our staff prepare a traditional African braai/barbecue around the campfire under the stars.
Enjoy an informal scrumptious cooked breakfast before you get picked up at approx. 09h00 for a guided morning game drive in the bordering Addo Elephant National Park which was proclaimed in 1931 to provide a safe haven for the few wild elephants who survived government-sponsored culling to remove them in the early 20th century.
Today the elephants number in their hundreds, thanks to the efforts of the National Parks Board and a unique vegetation type - subtropical thicket, or valley bushveld. It is this thick, impenetrable vegetation that has not only provided protection for the elephants and buffalo in the area, but also provided a rich food source, supporting what is now the most, dense population of wild elephants on the planet.
The morning tour concentrates on finding and viewing elephants, with knowledgeable guides interpreting their behavior and giving a detailed insight into the private life of elephants.
Buffalo sightings are a definite bonus, while you may also be lucky enough to see dung beetles keeping the park tidy!
Thereafter the tour moves on for lunch and then onto Schotia Private Game Reserve for some real, up-close game viewing. Schotia is a private game reserve and they can take their guests as close as possible to get the best viewing of rhino, hippo, giraffe and the king of the beasts, lion! They try to show our guests as much as possible on a drive and concentrate on the popular sightings rather than 'the birds and the bees'.
This is a four hour guided game drive in an open Land Rover with a short refreshments and toilet break at the halfway point. After an amazing experience where you will view more animals than you thought possible, enjoy a delicious dinner which is prepared over an open fire. A short, spotlight night drive providing the possibility of more nocturnal animals completes your experience before they take you back to Addo Afrique. You should be back at the Lodge at approx. 21h00-21h30, depending on what you see during your night drive.
